For the Kids

Greetings, All -

My apologies to all of you who have tried to be regular readers of my space on the Internet.  I'm really behind in posting anything of any great worth, lately.

As many of you know, Fuzzy underwent surgery last fall for a brain tumor. He had been ill off and on for a few weeks previous, but it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary. Then, one morning, he couldn't make his arm and leg work, and his speech started to slow - and I thought he was having a stroke.

An MRI revealed a brain tumor, and we were airlifted to a major hospital for the start of what would become . . . well, I'm not sure if nightmare is the right word, or even if "big struggle" covers it.

Fuzzy is doing so well, right now.  He's back at school a couple hours a week, he's working hard with physical and occupational therapy.  He's maintained his sense of humor through it all, though as expected, he has some rough days, too.  We are just so grateful for all the people who helped us get our Fuzzy back.  So many others are not as lucky.

On one of the support lists I joined, a woman named Angelia asked list members to try and get some publicity out for a video she put together to garner support for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a place that does really great things for kids who have brain tumors.  A country music singer by the name of John Rich wrote a good song, and the video and song can be found here:

There are many people who make so many things possible for kids who have brain tumors and other life-threatening and life-changing physical issues.  I'll list just a few, below:
  • donations/grants for extended-stay housing accommodations during your child's treatment
  • donations/grants for necessary medical supplies for your child, such as wheel chair ramps, wheel chair lifts for vans
  • donations/grants to help your child become more mobile - wheelchairs, specialty tricycles
  • Make-A-Wish foundations, and others like them
If you can find it in your heart to support St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and other research hospitals like St. Jude's, please do so.  Maybe some day, there will be more ways to help kids who have brain tumors.
